What is NDIS?

Introduction to NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s national program that funds support and services for people living with a permanent and significant disability. It helps participants build independence, access community, and improve quality of life. NDIS is available nationwide, including Sydney and surrounding suburbs.

NDIS is designed to give individuals choice and control over the support they receive. Instead of a one-size-fits-all model, funding is personalised based on individual goals, daily needs, mobility challenges, and social or economic participation aspirations.

What Does NDIS Funding Cover?

NDIS funding is grouped into 3 major support budgets:

Core Supports

For daily living assistance such as: Personal activities (self-care, mobility, home support). Disability support workers. Assisted travel & transport. Household and shared living assistance. Community and group programs.

Capacity Building Supports

For skill development including: Development of life skills. Goal setting and support coordination. Education, employment and work readiness. Community participation abilities. Improved health and daily routines.

Capital Supports

For high-value needs like: Wheelchairs, mobility equipment. Assistive technologies. Home accessibility modifications. Specialised disability accommodation (SDA).

Who is Eligible for NDIS?

A person may be eligible if they:

  • Live in Australia (Citizen, PR, or Protected Visa holder).

  • Are under 65 years of age.

  • Have a permanent disability that impacts everyday life.

  • Need support with daily activities, transport, communication, or community participation.

Early Intervention support is also available for people who may benefit from therapy or assistance to reduce long-term impact.
